As you said, I've been reluctant to share a lot with you,
About how you impress me or make me fall deeper in love,
And as you may have noticed, all of my songs hide secrets behind
Fancy words to veil the truth of my feelings in other worlds
Where I find shelter, maybe I can take you there, keep you safe
Just like you say you want to keep me, inside your pocket, have me there, and see me everyday
And you asked for a serenade
After all, music was the thing I was good at
And you insisted I write a serenade
And, I think... I think that's what I'll do
We started out simple, low expectations, if only we knew how far we'd come
All slow walks and concerts and kisses, all of this typical stuff
Yet in all these stereotypes your charm shined like a star, like a good omen of all the things to come
Cute and perfect memories, driving far away together
To journeys with no destination, not unlike what our lives are
You'd open up to me, and you probably thought I didn't care
But truth is, I was not content with just telling you my emotions
I had to find a way to make you understand
And, thus, I picked up the guitar
Put the capo on the 6th fret and played any chords that popped up
They ended up kind of ripping off a certain song
But that one ripped another off too, probably
I adore your hair; you don’t have to dye it
And your eyes linger within my sweetest dreams
Where you walk and lead on with your great ideas
Kind of wish I could go around the world with you
And albeit peculiar, your laugh fills the room with joy
And breaks the darkness, like the dawn
And I hope one day you find your purpose; you will
And, although it might not be much, let this serenade take over
Like a time machine, it takes you back and soothes you
Like the hissing of a tape of days past
Like a slideshow of the ocean at dusk
Like a strange dream of us gazing away
Like a mirror that never lets you forget who you are
Like an outline of me from your memory
Like a knot in the threads of fate
